Art Brut 2022 Touring Exhibition “Form, Fluid and Flexible”

 

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture will hold Art Brut ^(Note) 2022 Touring Exhibition “Form, Fluid and Flexible.”
This project will feature exhibitions touring three venues in Tokyo and an event at Hachijo-machi to highlight ten artists now expanding their fields of activity in Japan and overseas. The exhibition will present diverse forms of expressions using familiar everyday materials through works in different forms ranging from paintings to three-dimensional artworks, examining the fundamental creative charm of their expressions.
(Note) Art Brut is a term introduced by French artist Jean Dubuffet. Today it has a wider definition as art by people who have not had specialized art education but have unique ideas and ways of expression.

Outline of the exhibition

1. Exhibition of works

The Japanese word katachi (form) can mean appearance, shape, or design, or even the state of things. Katachi has many meanings. This exhibition presents artworks that differ in form giving different impressions, reflecting the many ways that katachi differs in meaning. The artists display their own unique approach in their handling of motifs with the simple yet powerful repetition of shapes and delicately lined drawings. Their works, in every case, are highly original. Works using colored pencils, color pens, fabric, threads, leaflets, etc. show us the diversity of expressions possible beyond the merely technical and remind us that creation and the routine of the everyday are inseparable.
We hope the freedom of expression in this exhibition will help you experience a different perspective and that it will provide an opportunity to think of a society where every one of us can create and foster a life rich in spirit.

Koseki Yuta (actor)
Koseki Yuta was born in Tokyo. In recent years he has appeared regularly in the TV program “King’s Brunch” (TBS) besides many other roles in TV dramas, films, and theaters. His main appearances include the movie DIVOC-12 “Life of Yumemi,” and TV drama “Love! Delinquent boy and a girl with a white cane” (NTV), etc.
