TOKYO,July 22, 2026 –The Tokyo Festival Executive Committee has announced the program for Tokyo Festival 2026, which will run from Tuesday, September 1st to Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026. Tokyo Festival is a comprehensive urban arts festival that aims to establish Tokyo as an international platform for the performing arts, connecting with the world through diverse performing arts events held throughout the entire Tokyo metropolitan area.

Key programs in the 2026 festival include:

1. Performing Arts Festival: Autumn Meteorite 2026 Tokyo(Oct. 9 – Nov. 3)

Based at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro and led by Artistic Director Toshiki Okada, this program will feature 13 domestic and international productions. Highlights include “Blue Moon Over Memphis,” an English Noh performance by Theatre Nohgaku, and “Generative Sensei,” an interactive performance that children can also enjoy, where participants attend a class taught by AI robots. Alongside these performances, the festival will offer “Non-Performance Programs" such as lectures and workshops. (Website)

2.Performing Arts Base 2026 (Sept. 5-6 & Sept. 25-27)

A free event showcasing the condensed charm of diverse performing arts—including theater, dance, street performance, and contemporary circus. Following last year's highly enthusiastic reception, the showcase has expanded to two locations in Tokyo this year to bring the magic of performing arts to an even broader audience. (Website)

3.Open Call Programs

Featuring approximately 100 works selected from submissions by the public—a significant increase from last year's 68—this program will bring a wide range of genres and styles to venues across Tokyo, from traditional theaters to public squares. Various locations across Tokyo will become performing arts venues, expanding new ways to experience the arts. (Website)

4.Tokyo Theatre Festival Network
