Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay: Information about Live Streaming Broadcast
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay in Tokyo will start on Friday 9 July. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of the sections of the torch relay planned to be held on public roads from Friday 9 to Friday 23 July have been canceled, with the exception of isolated island areas.
However, as a replacement for the public road sections of the torch relay, a flame lighting ceremony will be held without spectators. This ceremony will be streamed live on the website of the Bureau of Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 Preparation, so please enjoy it in the comfort of your home.
1. Live streaming broadcast
1) The live streaming broadcast of this event can be viewed on the Bureau of Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Preparation portal website at the link below.

In addition, prior to the lighting ceremony on each day, special programming such as video footage highlighting the distinctive cultural features of the municipalities planned for each ceremony section will be broadcast starting approximately 30 minutes prior to the first lighting ceremony section (however, this programming will air after the fourth lighting ceremony section on Friday 9 July).

I. Unveiling ceremony for the Olympic flame of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay (Venue: Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Ground, athletic field)
An unveiling ceremony will be held for the Olympic flame when it arrives in Tokyo after it finishes traveling around the country.

- Welcome program by the trumpet quintet of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra
- Speech by the governor of Tokyo
- Notification of the arrival of the torch lantern in Tokyo and the start of the Tokyo Metropolitan area torch relay

For the lighting ceremony, the torchbearers who were schedule to run on the day will light the torch and pass it around to one another (this action is called a “torch kiss”) on the stage and within the venue.
The Olympic flame will be passed for each section, then placed in a lantern at the end of each section. Next, the torch of the first torchbearers for the next section is lighted from the lantern. The final torchbearers for the day places the Olympic flame on a special celebration cauldron, ending the lighting ceremony for the day.
2. Cautionary points
- All of the ceremonies listed under 1. above will be held without spectators. Please be aware that anyone other than the approved participants will be unable to enter even if they go to the venue.
- All of the listing streaming times are tentative and may be subject to future changes. Any changes will be notified on the website.
