Special Olympics Nippon President Visits Ahead of 2026 Games
On May 14, 2026, President Hiraoka Hiroaki of Special Olympics Nippon (SON) paid a courtesy call on Governor Koike.
President Hiraoka said, “I greatly appreciate your tremendous understanding and support for the upcoming National Games in Tokyo. I offer my heartfelt gratitude.”
He added, “Approximately 1,200 athletes from across Japan are eager to gather here in Tokyo to compete and play sports. We are committed to making this event a success.”
The governor responded, “For the first time in 24 years, the Special Olympics Nippon Summer National Games will be held in Tokyo. I am really looking forward to it. All the athletes must have been training hard. Since this event is held only once every four years, I hope they will fully showcase the results of their efforts.”
She continued, “The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is committed to building a city where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive as their true selves. The Special Olympics initiative embodies the inclusive society that Tokyo seeks to realize. I extend my sincere respect to President Hiraoka and all those involved in organizing the Games. I wish all the best for their great success.”
