Courtesy Call to the Governor by the President of the Japan Rugby Football Union
On April 6, Tsuchida Masato, President of the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU), paid a courtesy call to Governor Koike.
During the call, the governor said, “I remember very well that the 2019 Rugby World Cup was an event that brought everyone together in their heartfelt support and created tremendous excitement. I heard that the JRFU is now bidding to host the 2035 World Cup. I harbor great expectations that the enthusiasm from that time will return to Tokyo.
“Tokyo hosted the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and last year we also hosted the World Athletics Championships and the Deaflympics. Sports will inspire everyone’s dreams and give us energy. And the 2019 Rugby World Cup also had a positive impact, inspiring children to dream of playing rugby themselves. Sports will also prove effective in various ways, such as enabling people to build up their bodies and learn the spirit of teamwork. I look forward to working together with you for hosting the sports events,” she said.
