Governor Koike Meets with Ms. Hashimoto Seiko, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC)
On May 29, Governor Koike met with Ms. Hashimoto Seiko, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), and Mr. Ota Yuki, Secretary General of the JOC.
The governor said, “Thank you very much for bringing us the wonderful news that it has been confirmed that Tokyo will host one stop of the Olympic Q-Series (for the LA 2028 Olympic Games). Urban sports are a legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Games. The Japanese athletes who won medals back then were all young, looked like they were having fun, and showed no signs of nervousness. It was truly exhilarating to watch them.
“Holding these events in the heart of youth culture—Yoyogi Park and Shibuya—is significant, indeed, both for further expanding urban sports and showcasing Tokyo to the world. We, as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, will extend our full support to ensure that a wonderful event is realized while winning the understanding and empathy of Tokyo residents and the Japanese people at large, by leveraging the experience and expertise we have cultivated by hosting international sporting events in the past,” she said.
