Announcement of public use of Ariake Arena ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Games
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is pleased to announce the activities and services that will be available at the Ariake Arena, a venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, following the postponement of the Games. The venue will offer activities and services to the public to the extent that these do not interfere with the delivery of and preparations for the Games. The Ariake Arena, a new sports and cultural center in Tokyo, will be operated as a concession that makes the most of the originality and ingenuity of the private company (the concessionaire) that will operate the facility. Even during the postponement of the Games, TMG will continue to offer activities and services in conjunction with the concessionaire to acquaint more people with the new venue and to make the new venue more accessible to the local community.
1. Activities and services offered (tentative)
High-quality entertainment that can be enjoyed at home in the “With Corona” era and sports experience events are set to be offered with the cooperation of the concessionaire (Tokyo Ariake Arena Inc.).
- Online distribution of live music and sports events without in-person audiences, etc. (in principle, there will be a charge for these services)
- Sports experience events for residents of Tokyo

Sports exchange programs with top athletes, sports experience events, and other activities are set to be offered. Further information will be announced at a later date in consideration of the novel coronavirus situation.
3. Other
- Please note that sufficient infection control measures are being taken at the venue based on the TMG’s “Roadmap to Overcoming COVID-19 – to build a society where the ‘new normal’ is firmly established”. We would like to ask all users for their cooperation with measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure safety.
- In order to manage the temporary overlays for the Tokyo 2020 Games, as well as ensure the safety of users, the venue may have restrictions with respect to the area that may be used and its usage.
- The public use of venues may be suspended in the future depending on the novel coronavirus situation.
