Governor attends the “89th Meeting of the National Capital Region Nine Government Summit Council
Governor Koike attended the “89th Meeting of the National Capital Region Nine Government Summit Council,” which was held online on April 23.
As the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s proposal regarding properly regulating the private lodging (minpaku) system, Governor Koike said, “The number of private lodging units registered in the national capital region has increased approximately 2.5-fold since 2023. And the number is expected to increase further in the future. On the other hand, a certain number of unlicensed or unregistered private lodging units that cannot be put into numerical data exist, making it difficult for the national and local governments to fully grasp the real situation.
“Furthermore, there are many cases where waste disposal, noise control, and the management of the living environment, which those individuals and property owners who rent out their properties to tourists are obliged to do properly, have not been followed. Numerous disputes with people living nearby have also occurred. For these reasons, I propose that we, as the council, make a formal request to the national government to ensure the proper management of private lodging,” she said. As the proposal won the consent of the heads of other local governments, it was decided that the council would jointly carry out its request activity.
