Events to Mark the 64th Anniversary of the JGSDF’s 1st Division and the 75th Anniversary of the Nerima Garrison
On April 12, Governor Koike attended the “64th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the Establishment of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s 1st Division and the 75th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the Establishment of the Nerima Garrison,” held at the JGSDF Nerima Garrison in Nerima Ward.
The governor stated, “On behalf of the 14 million citizens of Tokyo, I’d like to express our gratitude to all the personnel who resolutely stand to face various crises.
“When Typhoons No. 22 and No. 23 caused significant damage to Hachijo Town last October, you carried out activities such as water supply, food distribution, bathing services, and the transport of relief supplies, bringing great hope to the island’s residents. I would like to express our gratitude once again,” she said.
“As we turn our eyes to outside the country, the outlook of the international community is fraught with uncertainty. That is precisely why I have made ‘the capital defense’—protecting Tokyo and its residents from various crises—the cornerstone of the metropolitan government’s administration. “The essence of crisis management lies in the spirit of ‘Always be prepared,’ anticipating every possible scenario and maintaining a broad perspective. We will further accelerate our efforts to make Tokyo the world’s most resilient city, where everyone can live with peace of mind. Let us march together toward ensuring the safety and security of Tokyo and Japan, as well as the sustainable development,” the governor said.
