Governor Attends the 41st World Veterinary Association Congress and the Official Dinner
Governor Koike attended the “41st World Veterinary Association Congress 2026” and the “Official Dinner” held at the Tokyo International Forum in Chiyoda Ward on April 21 and 23, respectively.
At the congress, the governor said, “In the gracious presence of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, I wholeheartedly congratulate the organizers on the holding of the 41st World Veterinary Association Congress here in Tokyo.
“From the standpoint of preparing for the next infectious disease crisis, the One Health approach, which recognizes that the health of humans, animals, and the wider environment are closely linked, has become ever more important. In cooperation with veterinarians and experts from various fields, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been advancing comprehensive initiatives, including the monitoring and prevention of zoonotic diseases. With the keyword of ‘Tokyo, One Health in Action,’ we will vigorously promote and raise awareness of the One Health philosophy together with those officials concerned in various fields, including human medicine, veterinary medicine, public health, and the environment,” she said with emphasis.
The governor went on to say, “I sincerely hope that all participants in this congress will engage in lively discussions based on their wealth of knowledge while experiencing the charm of Tokyo, where tradition and cutting-edge culture coexist. I hope that the success of this conference will contribute to the advancement of veterinary medicine and the realization of a society where humans and animals live harmoniously.”
At the congress’s official dinner, the governor said, “On behalf of the host city, Tokyo, I extend a warm welcome to all of you. The ‘One Health’ philosophy is also crucial for preparedness for the next pandemic. I earnestly hope that the discussions and information shared at this Tokyo conference will spread widely, thus leading to the realization of a better society. Finally, Tokyo is a city brimming with various attractions, including nature, culture, and cuisine. I hope you will all enjoy the rest of your stay to the fullest.”
