Visit to Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Vessels, ‘Tokyo Mirai Maru’ and ‘Tsukiji ZERO’
On April 24, Governor Koike paid a visit to the “Tokyo Mirai Maru” and “Tsukiji ZERO,” the first hydrogen fuel-cell vessels put into practical use by a government agency.
The governor said, “These are the first hydrogen fuel-cell ships that have been put into practical use by a government agency in Japan. Particularly, the ‘Tokyo Mirai Maru’ will play an important role in backing up Tokyo’s safety and security by transporting personnel and relief supplies in the event of a disaster.
“While we anticipate that the situation regarding fossil fuels will continue to be very harsh, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has conducted various studies and implemented initiatives regarding hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels. We believe that hydrogen fuel cells will become an important alternative fuel.
“Furthermore, from the perspective of consideration for local residents, the vessels would sail quietly, offering various advantages. We will continue to focus on hydrogen energy and advance its social implementation. We will move forward with building a sustainable and resilient city, aiming to balance environmental protection with safety and security,” she said.
