Governor Meets with Students from Queensland, Australia
On Wednesday, June 21, Governor Koike met with high school students from Queensland, Australia. They were the first group of overseas students accepted under the program,“Tokyo Experience School.”
The“Tokyo Experience School”is a model project in which students from abroad experience Japanese-style education, Japanese culture, life in Tokyo, and others. This month, Tokyo Metropolitan Hakuo Senior High School received 15 students from Queensland, based on the Memorandum of Understanding on Education, concluded last November between the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education and Queensland Department of Education and Training.
A student representing the Queensland’s group thanked the governor for the many valuable experiences gained, noting that“it was very interesting to attend science and mathematics classes and participate in extracurricular activities. The difference in how Japanese and Australian students study subjects was refreshing to me.”The student expressed her eagerness to learn more in the remaining days of the program.
The governor responded that“we put together a program that is not only meaningful for Japanese students, but also appealing to you by including opportunities for you to also experience Japan’s traditional culture and its strong fields of science and technology”and concluded by saying,“I hope that you will discover the various appeals of Tokyo and serve as bridges between Queensland and Tokyo.”
