Governor Visits PyeongChang
From Saturday, March 17 to Monday, March 19, Governor Koike visited the city of Gangneung and PyeongChang County, South Korea, in order to observe how the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games were run.
While in PyeongChang and Gangneung, the governor visited sites including the Athletes’ Village, a railyard, competition venues, and the KTX (Korea’s high-speed rail system) Gangneung Station. She also attended the Games’ Closing Ceremony and observed accessibility measures and how the Games were run.
On Saturday the 17th, the governor met with Mr. Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee. The governor offered her congratulations on the success of the PyeongChang 2018 Games and said she believed that “the success of the Paralympics will determine the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games.” Mr. Parsons remarked that Tokyo is an excellent partner and that he has high expectations. And, that he hoped to work together with Tokyo on the Tokyo 2020 Games which are coming up after PyeongChang.
