Announcement of the Start of Nishiogi Management Lab

On January 23, Governor Koike attended the “Announcement of the Start of Nishiogi Management Lab,” hosted by Tokyo women’s Management Lab at Otemachi 1st Square in Chiyoda Ward.

Governor Koike stated, “Under the theme of ‘Expanding the Circle of Women’s Participation from Tokyo,’ we are deploying policies using ‘WA’ as a keyword, derived from the initials of ‘Women in Action.’ We hope that the activities of Nishiogi Management Lab will serve as a catalyst, enabling as many women as possible to get involved in the decision-making process and thereby contribute to creating new value and innovation.”

She went on to say, “As Goto Shimpei, the 7th Mayor of the then city of Tokyo, said, ‘There are three important things in this world: first, people; second, people; and third, people.’ We are moving forward with our policies while carefully reflecting on these words. Since women make up half the population, I have always said it is a waste not to make the best use of women’s power. I am putting this into action even more because I am the Tokyo Governor now.”

In concluding her address, the governor said, “On the other hand, the number of women in managerial positions hasn’t increased large enough. To change society, it is important to increase the number of women in the decision-making process. We aim to create a win-win cycle where the self-realization and sense of accomplishment of each woman will simultaneously make positive contributions to the companies. As a vanguard in this effort, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is committed to tackling this challenge solidly.”
