Asia Society Policy Salon Tokyo

On January 20, 2025, Governor Koike delivered a speech titled “Tokyo's Vision: Leading the Change for a Sustainable Future” at Asia Society Policy Salon Tokyo, hosted by Asia Society Japan Center.

Topics included: 

  • Tokyo’s zero-emission plan involves using offshore wind farms, solar power, and green hydrogen. The world’s first trial trading of a free hydrogen market—happening in Tokyo 
  • SusHi Tech Tokyo success and introduction explanation of Tokyo Innovation Base. Encouraged promising startups to tap into the global market and pave the way for unicorns from Tokyo 
  • Tokyo’s recent tourism boom addressed and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s (TMG) support role. Tokyo’s appeal lies in a mix of tradition and innovation that continues to evolve as a leading tourism destination. Projection mapping mentioned and reopening of the Edo-Tokyo Museum in 2026 

She concluded her speech by saying that Tokyo is taking initiative in resolving worldwide issues for a bright and sustainable future in the year of the Snake (2025/Chinese Zodiac), which will be “the year of challenge and changes.”  

The Q&A session included questions about decarbonizing Tokyo via solar power and other methods, providing a four-day workweek to TMG employees, the expansion of SusHi Tech Tokyo, and more.
