Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Gas Sign an Accord in Accelerating Efforts to Achieve Carbon Neutrality
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Gas Co. signed an agreement on May 26 to cooperate in accelerating efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. At a ceremony held at the TMG’s main building, Governor Koike and Mr. Shinichi Sasayama, President and CEO of Tokyo Gas, signed the accord.
Noting that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has set a new target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60% by 2035 compared to the level in 2000, the governor hailed the accord, saying, “This collaboration with Tokyo Gas, which is committed to harmonizing stable energy supply and decarbonization and to expand the installation of energy-saving power sources, is quite significant.”
Earlier this month, the TMG and Tokyo Gas also signed an agreement for the trial production of green hydrogen, which the TMG will produce in Keihin Island, and green methane, which will be made from sewage sludge-derived CO2 at Morigasaki Water Reclamation Center, by utilizing Tokyo Gas’ knowledge in this area.
“Based on the agreement concluded today, we would like to deepen our partnerships and cooperation and further accelerate our efforts in various fields to realize a decarbonized society,” the governor said.
