Meeting with Maruyama Teppei, Mayor of Kokubunji City
Governor Koike held a meeting on July 18 with Maruyama Teppei, who has been newly appointed Mayor of Kokubunji City. Maruyama’s predecessor, Izawa Kunio, also attended the meeting.
Mayor Maruyama told the governor, “We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for its tremendous support to a wide range of our projects including the construction of our new city hall.”
“To continue administering the city of Kokubunji, we would appreciate your continued help and support. For my part, I will do my utmost to share the perspective of your metropolitan government in moving Tokyo forward,” he said. “I would appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”
In reply, Governor Koike thanked former mayor Izawa for cooperating with her administration when he served three terms spanning 12 years. “And to you, Mayor Maruyama,” she said, “I would like to commend your experiences, including those as a member of the city assembly and an associate at the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management (MIGM), with which you have played an active role with determination for the benefit of citizens over many years.”
MIGM is a private educational institution established by Panasonic founder Matsushita Konosuke in 1979, which has nurtured young talents in political, business and other fields.
“I sincerely congratulate you upon assuming the office of mayor. As the world is about to undergo major changes, I hope cooperation between Tokyo Metropolis and cities therein will make life and society better for residents there,” Governor Koike noted. Citing her government’s long-term “Tokyo 2050 Strategy” and its plan for sustainable development of the capital’s western Tama region including Kokubunji, she said: “We hope to enhance our cooperation in further bringing out the unique characteristics of Kokubunji City.”
