About the OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth Initiative

The OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth Initiative (OECD Champion Mayors) is an international network launched by the OECD in 2016. It brings together city leaders to share and promote policies and initiatives aimed at reducing inequality and fostering inclusive economic growth. As of October 2026, the network comprises 60 mayors from OECD member countries, OECD accession candidate countries, and developing economies.

Governor Koike has participated in the network since 2017. In 2025, she was appointed Vice-Chair, with a special responsibility for women and children, and in 2026 she became Chair.

The Meeting of the OECD Champion Mayors for Inclusive Growth brings together mayors from around the world to discuss common challenges cities face, share knowledge and exchange views. The 2027 meeting will be the eighth meeting and the first to be held in Japan.
