Tokyo-London Financial Innovation Seminar 2026
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko took the platform at the Tokyo-London Financial Innovation Seminar 2026 on June 18.
Dame Susan Langley, the Lady Mayor of the City of London, also delivered the keynote speech for the seminar held at Tokyo Innovation Base in downtown Tokyo.
“Efforts are underway in both London and Tokyo to develop a public-private financial ecosystem to strongly support innovative technologies and creativity,” Governor Koike said in closing remarks for the event. “The times are changing at an extremely rapid pace and, even with the help of continually evolving AI, it is difficult to foresee what lies ahead for our world.”
She went on to say, “That is precisely why there is now a pressing need for the wisdom and ideas of people, which will help solve societal challenges and enrich our lives.” She added, “In particular, I strongly believe that the power of women who account for half the population is so essential.”
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will enact an ordinance to promote the empowerment of women, the first of its kind in Japan, next month, Governor Koike noted. “And we will continue working to firmly support women’s advancement and leadership.”
She concluded by saying: “Let us build on today’s seminar by further supporting financial innovation, which generates new economic vitality so that we may turn the uncertain future into one of the security and hope.”
