Courtesy Call from Tokyo Teams Bound for National High School Baseball Tourney
Governor Koike received a courtesy call on July 31 from the two Tokyo teams that have qualified for the 107th National High School Baseball Championship.
The annual championship brings together 49 high schools, including two from Tokyo: Kanto Daiichi High School, which won the eastern Tokyo qualifying division, and Nihon University No. 3 High School, which won the western division. The national tournament is to be held August 5-23 at the Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, western Japan.
“I hope you will play each and every game with the utmost care to make it to that final victory,” Governor Koike told the visitors. “Tokyo is going to host the World Athletics Championships in September and the Deaflympics in November this year. Sports in various fields, especially sports for the young like yourselves, provide an extremely valuable opportunity to train people, not only physically but also mentally, and help them make more friends.”
The governor wished the two Tokyo high schools would ”play your heart out and keep on winning games.” “I will cheer for you from Tokyo with all I have,” she said.
