Celebrating the Opening of Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics
On November 15, Governor Koike attended the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
Governor Koike remarked, "Welcome to Tokyo, everyone. We extend our heartfelt greetings. It is a great honor to host this historic event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Deaflympics. Four years ago, Tokyo became the first city in the world to host the Paralympics twice, marking a significant step toward an inclusive society.”
She emphasized, “With this year’s Deaflympics as a catalyst, Tokyo will advance even further—breaking down communication barriers, promoting sign language and digital technology, and creating a society where smooth communication is accessible to all.”
She continued, “Volunteers—both deaf and hearing—are working hand in hand to support the Games. Children, who represent the next generation, contributed to the design of the Deaflympics emblem and medals. Harmony and diversity, transcending all differences, are the driving forces behind these Games. We eagerly look forward to seeing the athletes perform their best, inspired by expectations and the heartfelt support of spectators.”
“From Tokyo to the world, we are building a movement toward a truly inclusive society where everyone can live comfortably. We are confident that the Deaflympics will help guide the world toward a better future. Tokyo will support it wholeheartedly until the very end, ensuring it becomes a magnificent event that inspires the next 100 years,” she concluded.
