Governor Koike Attends a May Day Rally, Pledging to Help Workers Gain ‘You Time’ and Support Women to Play More Active Roles in Society
On April 26, Governor Koike attended a May Day rally in Tokyo, pledging to help Tokyo workers gain ‘you time’ through digital transformation (DX) and support women to play more active roles in society.
At the 96th Central May Day Rally and Ceremony held at Yoyogi Park in Shibuya City, the governor said, “To navigate Tokyo toward the year 2050, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has drawn up our compass, in which we formulated our strategies, including both the timelines and numerical targets so that we can march vigorously to create a Tokyo where all people can shine and have a real feeling of happiness.”
“Focusing on ‘people,’ Tokyo put in force the country’s first ordinance to prevent customer harassment in April. To spread the ordinance’s ideas as well as to ensure its workability, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to support both workers and industries. We will also back up women’s wish to work while also taking on such challenges including breaking through the ‘annual income wall for dependents’ and narrowing the gender pay gap,” she emphasized.
“The Tokyo Metropolitan Government values two keywords: DX and WA (Women in Action). By harnessing the power of digital technology, we will help increase workers’ you time.’ We will also advance our efforts to encourage women, who make up half of Tokyo’s population, to play an active role in society,” the governor affirmed.
The rally was hosted by the 96th Central May Day Organizing Committee.
