The 36th Tokyo Peace Day Memorial Ceremony

On March 10, Governor Koike attended the “36th Tokyo Peace Day Memorial Ceremony.”

The governor said, “Today’s peace and prosperity have been built on the loss of many precious lives and the history of suffering endured by the bereaved families and victims. Now that generations who have never experienced war make up the majority of our society, we must not let the tragic memories of war fade away but pass them down properly to future generations and convey the importance of peace. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed the significance of peace, vowed not to repeat the horrors of war and designated March 10 as ‘Tokyo Peace Day.’

“The world is amid upheavals. The international order built since the end of the war is being severely shaken by invasions of other countries, regional conflicts, and acts of terrorism. Furthermore, we face multiple difficulties, including increasingly severe climate change and energy and food crises. “Overcoming these hardships and passing on a peaceful world to future generations is the duty of all of us living today. As Governor of Tokyo, I will transform Tokyo, the capital of Japan, into a more resilient city brimming with dreams and hope, where everyone can live fulfilling lives. And I will devote myself to the realization of a sustainable world,” she emphasized.
