Monozukuri – A Celebration of Japanese Artisanal Techniques 2020 Enjoy master craftsmanship online!
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government holds “Monozukuri – A Celebration of Japanese Artisanal Techniques” every year to promote traditional master craftsmanship and manufacturing techniques and skills. In FY 2020, we will hold the event online so that people can enjoy viewing demonstrations and works of excellent master craftsmanship in Tokyo.
We will also present rarely seen refined techniques and unique skills in videos on our website. Don’t miss them.

- Demonstrations of master craftsmanship & introduction of masters’ works (live streaming)
- Giveaways for viewers – Viewers have a chance to win masters’ products or experience kits through a lottery.
- Introduction of craftsmanship of masters around Japan, etc.

Highlights of the Online Events
November 3 (Tue. holiday)
- 10:10 – 10:55
Masato & Cooking Master Special Stage: Masato tries ice carving.
Masato will try to create an ice sculpture – a decoration to make various scenes gorgeous.
It will be a dynamic demonstration that attracts the viewers. - 11:05 – 11:35
How to paint correctly using brushes, rollers & spatulas made with craftsmanship - 12:45 – 13:15
Spherical drawing using a special anvil with techniques of a metal sheet master
Technical high school students in Tokyo will experience basic painting methods and metal sheet molding methods.
November 4 (Wed.)
- 14:25 – 15:10
Masato & Landscape Gardening Master Special Stage: Masato tries Japanese-style landscape gardening.
Collaboration with Masato and a landscape gardening master
There will be a demonstration of traditional techniques such as decorating trees with bamboo (called Takehanabi) to create beautiful Japanese gardens. - 16:15 – 17:00
Extremely skillful repapering of a wall on the stage by interior decoration technicians
Demonstration of skillful repapering, a basic interior decoration technique, to reveal a newly papered wall after removing the old.

- Comedy teams will join in the fun to further enliven the event. (Doki Doki Camp, Harukara, etc.)
