Welcoming Freshmen to the Tokyo Metropolitan University
On April 5, 2026, Governor Koike attended the entrance ceremony of Tokyo Metropolitan University at the Tokyo International Forum.
The governor addressed the students as follows:
Congratulations on your special day. As you start a new chapter of your life, I would like you to keep three things in mind.
First, have big dreams; be ambitious. To achieve this, break down your big dream into smaller steps—small ambitions—and work through them one by one. This will eventually realize your greater ambition.
Second, keep trying without fear of failure. Today, technologies are evolving at a pace beyond our expectations, bringing transformative change to society. In this era of rapid transition, your can-do spirit drives progress. Keep trying while leveraging ever-improving AI and other cutting-edge technologies.
Finally, cast your eyes toward the wider world. Amid dynamic shifts in the international community, we will be left behind if we just focus on domestic competition.
Tokyo Metropolitan University is fostering an environment where students from Japan and across the world can learn together and inspire one another. Interact with diverse peers, broaden your horizons, and see the bigger picture.
The sky is the limit. Make the most of your time here, learn as much as you can, and hone your creativity. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will wholeheartedly support you as you take on challenges and shape the future.
