Governor Attends Meeting with Chairpersons of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Tokyo
On February 2, Governor Koike attended a “meeting with chairpersons of the chambers of commerce and industry in Tokyo” held at the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Chiyoda Ward.
Governor Koike said, “Not mentioning the major issues we face at this moment, how Tokyo and each area of the city can ensure sustainable growth in the future is also a big challenge. Moreover, in this age of AI, both industries and the development of human resources will be impacted significantly.”
Regarding the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s budget for the coming fiscal year, the governor said, “We have enhanced our policies, including our support for the issues of wage increases, labor shortages, and the promotion of tourism. And, last year, the birth rate finally turned upward from the previous year. This year is the Year of the Fiery Horse (when births tend to decline due to superstition), but by working together with you, I want to make Tokyo a city that continues to develop in various aspects.
“Furthermore, regarding Tokyo metropolitan technical high schools, we will substantially change the content of their subjects and curriculum to cultivate the manpower and students needed in the age of AI. In doing so, TMG would like to exchange information with you regarding current and future needs, and I hope you will sometimes take on the role of instructors so that we can cooperate closely with each other. Let us make 2026 a year of ever-expanding prosperity,” she said.
