The 63rd Tokyo Traditional Crafts Fair

Tokyo Metropolitan Government will host the 63rd Tokyo Traditional Crafts Fair at Takashimaya Shinjuku. Showcasing the charms of Tokyo’s traditional handicrafts, the fair will feature displays, demonstrations and opportunities for visitors to purchase and experience making handicrafts.
We hope that you will take this chance to take Tokyo’s traditional crafts in hand and closely experience what everyday life with them is like, while seeing the numerous techniques of the craftspeople who have inherited these traditions.

9 January (Thu) to 13 January (Mon, public holiday) 2020 (for 5 days)
From 10:00AM to 8:00PM
(However, the fair will be open until 8:30PM on the 10th (Fri) and 11th (Sat), and on the final day (Mon 13th) will be until 6:00PM.)

Main activities

1. Display and sale of traditional handicrafts produced by craftspeople in Tokyo
2. Demonstrations of craftspeople’s skills and traditions
3. Try your hand at making traditional handicrafts
4. Guided tours of booths while speaking to craftspeople
5. A lottery to win Tokyo handicrafts
6. A 200 yen discount after 6:00PM with an app-based coupon (valid from 5:00PM on the 13th).

Booth Tour
(Free, no reservations required)

In guided tours around the venue with staff, participants will be able to enjoy hearing from craftspeople and be introduced to the world of traditional handicrafts.

*Tours will be held twice daily at 1:00PM and 4:00PM during the exhibition period (lasting approximately 30 minutes).
*Anyone is free to join. Those interested should gather in front of the information corner on the 11th floor by the start time.

Lottery Drawing

For each 10,000 spent at the Tokyo Traditional Crafts Fair, customers will be eligible to receive one entry in a lottery for the chance to win a traditional handicraft.

*Including consumption tax. Participation will be limited to a maximum of 200,000 (20 entries).

Front Display

There is a photo spot that pictures the room where the shogun would hold an audience in Edo Castle. You can take a picture to commemorate your visit to the fair and look at many traditional crafts of Tokyo that have been made using techniques handed down since the Edo period.
