Ceremony to Show a Renovated Toden, Tokyo Sakura Tram
On April 15, Governor Koike attended a ceremony to display a renovated Toden, a tram car of Tokyo, designed by Mitooka Eiji.
Governor Koike stated, “Last May, I, together with Mr. Mitooka, unveiled a new design for the Toden, a tram car of Tokyo. It has been about a year since then, and we have finally come to this day to show it. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Mitooka and all of those involved. Also joining us today for the ribbon-cutting ceremony are the first riders and those who have supported our design-renewal project through crowdfunding. Thank you very much for your support.
“The regular service will finally begin tomorrow. At the end of May, we will launch a special tour in collaboration with Hato Bus, in which this tram will be chartered exclusively for the event, allowing passengers to even enjoy tea and hold a party on board. I hope the upcoming special ride will help people love the Tokyo Sakura Tram even more. And I hope this nostalgic tram—just like the trams that came before this—will be widely talked about and loved by people of local communities and tramcar fans across the country,” she said.
