Governor meets with Head of Instagram
On Friday, March 15, Governor Koike met with Mr. Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Instagram, a social networking service for photos and videos, has around 29 million active accounts in Japan as of the month of September 2018. As head of Instagram, Mr. Mosseri has been overseeing all functions of Instagram’s business since October 2018, including engineering, product, and operations.
Governor Koike explained that “The TMG uses Instagram, and I wish to continue to use it to promote tourism and Tokyo’s unknown treasures to the world. I would like people around the world to know that the TMG is in the midst of preparations for the Rugby World Cup™ and the Tokyo 2020 Games. That is why I hope to make copious use of Instagram.”
Mr. Mosseri replied, “Instagram’s mission is ‘to bring you closer to the people and things you love.’ With Instagram, users can enjoy various worlds including music, food, and entertainment. As a global platform, you will be able to tell the world about how wonderful Tokyo and Japan are.” He added, “Instagram supports sports as a whole. We would like to contribute to creating a momentum that can raise global enthusiasm over the Games not only during the Tokyo Games, but also before the Games.”
After their meeting, Mr. Mosseri and his team presented the governor with a portrait of herself embroidered by a Japanese artist.
