Governor Koike Presents Decorations and Medals to Individuals of Merit
On May 2, Governor Koike presented decorations and medals to individuals of merit at a biannual presentation ceremony held for the spring of 2025.
The governor said, “I would like to express my heartfelt respect to all of those who have weathered many difficulties and hardships and have made great achievements that have formed the foundation of the present Tokyo .”
She noted, “The pace of change surrounding Tokyo is tremendous. Accelerating pace in population decline and increasingly aging population with falling birthrate, increasingly serious climate crisis and natural disasters, uncertain situations in the global community, and AI technology evolving at an astonishing rate, all of which are affecting the daily lives of Tokyo citizens in various ways.”
She went on to say “The future is always uncertain. What is certain is that it is always “the people’s power” that will carve out a bright future. If every one of us shows wisdom and unite our efforts while looking ahead of time, we will be able to create a better future.”
“The wealth of knowledge and experience you have accumulated over many years is an irreplaceable and invaluable asset for Tokyo,” she praised, adding “I hope you will pass on such assets, and above all, your beliefs and sentiments to the next generation of people.”
“Let us evolve Tokyo into a sustainable city and let us create a society where everyone has hope for the future, where people can live with a sense of reassurance, and where the smiling faces of our children will shine brightly,” she said with emphasis.
