Domestic SAF Supply Launch Event at Haneda Airport
On July 7, Governor Koike attended the ceremony marking the start of domestic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply to Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport). The event at Terminal 3 was hosted by JGC Holdings Corporation, with the company’s Representative Director, Chairman, President, and CEO Sato Masayuki, All Nippon Airways Representative Director and President Inoue Shinichi, and Japan Airlines Director and Chairperson Akasaka Yuji also attending.
"At Haneda Airport, the supply of domestic SAF has begun, primarily for international flights. Compared to jet fuel, this can cut CO2 emissions by about 80 percent, a significant reduction. Efforts to consider the environment and avoid resource waste are part of the long-standing Edo culture and our social structure. Haneda Airport is Japan’s first example of engaging in promoting domestic SAF. I heard that discussions on the national level are ongoing, inspired by this initiative. While the use of Japanese SAF has just begun, we aim to further accelerate decarbonization in the aviation sector by boosting SAF use. We hope to further build momentum towards decarbonization," said the governor.
