‘Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2026’ To Be Held at 2 Venues in Oct.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture will host the “Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2026” at two venues in October, offering an opportunity for everyone, including those not familiar with the tea ceremony, to enjoy casually “the art of tea.”

The annual event will take place at the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (in Koganei, western Tokyo) on October 24 and 25, and at Hama-rikyu Gardens (in Chuo Ward) on October 31 and November 1.

This year, tickets for all indoor tea ceremonies and "Nodate", tea ceremonies held outdoors, will be sold at both venues on the day of the event, with no reservations available. The event, which goes beyond the stylistic variations among the schools in the art of tea, allows everyone, including children and international visitors, to participate.

At the architectural museum, indoor tea ceremonies, including those held in English, and “tea ceremonies that you can enjoy with your children” will be set up. At Hama-rikyu Gardens, visitors can enjoy “Nodate,” including those held in English, and even experience the art of flower arrangement.

Furthermore, as part of the seasonal event “Edo Tokyo Autumn 2026,” the range of activities will be expanded to enable visitors to experience Edo culture. At both venues, they can enjoy hands-on experiences and demonstrations of Edo traditional crafts. At Hama-rikyu Gardens, there will be explanations and performances of Kabuki by Kabuki players.

Admission to the architectural museum will be free during the event period, but to enter Hama-rikyu Gardens, an admission fee is required in addition to the event ticket.
