Lectures for Women in Farming

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government began accepting applications, starting on June 4, for a hands-on program designed for women to be able to take part in farm management and demonstrate their capabilities in the agricultural sector.

This fiscal year, five regional lectures under the “Shining Tokyo Women in Agriculture” will be held in various areas across Tokyo, according to the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs. The lectures cover four themes: business strategy, service development, information transmission, and production techniques.

In addition to these lectures, the program will also include field trips to observe advanced initiatives and forums. Certificates will be issued to participants who attend multiple sessions within a single theme.

The first round of regional lectures is scheduled for July.

• In Kita Tama, northwestern Tokyo, a lecture themed “Environmentally-Friendly, Eco-Conscious Soil Management” (on July 8).
• In Nishi Tama, western Tokyo, a lecture titled “Tips for Growing Vegetables That Can Withstand the Heat” (on July 9).
• In Minami Tama, southwestern Tokyo, a lecture titled “Sorting Out Farmers’ Concerns and Transforming Them into Management Challenges” (on July 16). 
• In the central Tokyo area, a lecture themed “Key Points for Developing Sales Channels That Utilize the Appeal of Tokyo-Made Ingredients” (on July 28).

The program is open to individuals, irrespective of sex, as follows.

• Female farmers in Tokyo, family members of farmers, and those interested in getting involved in agriculture.
• Sessions will be held in person, but online participation is also available (excluding field trips and similar activities).
• Capacity is limited to approximately 30 participants for each lecture. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration is required.
