Governor Koike Promotes Lifelong Learning at Premium College

During her visit on July 8 to Tokyo Metropolitan University’s Premium College, a program designed for lifelong learners aged 50 and older, Governor Koike observed a class and spoke with the senior students.

“Since its founding in 2019 by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the college has welcomed many students. They have thrived academically and made new friends, which is a highly positive thing,” the governor said. Citing the AI-generated Predictions for the 22nd Century Japan and Tokyo, she continued: “With healthy life expectancy now projected to reach 120 years, you are truly in the prime of youth. I encourage you to continue learning and make the most of it.” She also engaged with students, asking about their motivations for enrolling and their experiences on campus.

During the “Nature in the Tama Area and Tokyo Islands” class, the governor invited students to share their ideas on urban planning in Tama, a region home to 4 million of Tokyo’s 14 million population. “TMG aims to promote Tama’s strengths, such as a lifestyle that supports work-life balance and enhanced access to telework. Your perspectives, shaped by both personal experiences and academic study are deeply appreciated,” she said.
