TMG To Recommend ‘Kodomamo’ to Protect Youth from Online Risks

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) announced recently that it will recommend “Kodomamo,” a smartphone app designed to protect children from online dangers, for the next two years.

Based on its ordinance on the healthy development of youth, TMG is promoting initiatives to recommend smartphone apps that will contribute to the healthy development of youth.

“Kodomamo” is an app developed by Adora Co. that utilizes AI technology to enable parents to let their children use smartphones with a sense of reassurance.

The app’s main features include detecting risky chats on social media, blocking signs of pornographic selfies on a child’s phone, and preventing smartphone addiction and excessive use.

Expected benefits include the prevention of social media-related troubles and criminal victimization, protection from sexual abuse and harmful content, and help household rules over the use of smartphones take hold.

In addition, TMG is rolling out various initiatives under the “Nettsugu (Connecting to the Internet for a Good Future) Tokyo” program, aimed at enhancing the Internet literacy of youth and their parents. Through these efforts, TMG is supporting voluntary initiatives by private-sector companies while working to protect young people from online dangers as smartphone use becomes part of their daily lives.
