Governor Koike Attends the 7th Conference of ‘Vision Network by Women Governors and Mayors’

On October 18, Governor Koike attended the “7th Conference of the Vision Network by Women Governors and Mayors” held at the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shibusawa Hall in Chiyoda Ward.

On the same day, she also visited a pop-up shop opened on the 1st floor of KITTE Marunouchi, a market that featured specialty products from the conference-participating municipalitie s and from the countries represented by female ambassadors to Japan.

Governor Koike said, “Currently, there are 74 female governors and mayors in Japan, each working hard. However, Japan has 1,700 municipalities, so there is a long road lying ahead. As this year’s theme is ‘Expanding the Circle of Women’s Advancement,’ I look for deepening discussions with all of you as leaders, thus taking a step toward changing society.”

She then stated that under the banner of the “Women in Action” initiative, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in cooperation with corporate leaders who support the advancement of women in society, will disseminate some examples of such an initiative and foster female leaders. Furthermore, to create an environment where women can fully utilize their individuality and abilities, we are compiling fundamental principles for drafting a new ordinance.”

In concluding her speech, she said, “I hope this conference will be a fruitful occasion, enabling each region and city of the network to leverage its characteristics to help build a sustainable society, and create a society where both women and men can achieve their self-realization more easily.”
