During the courtesy call on May 15, the governor praised the enduring legacy of the SSFF & Asia, calling it a testament to “the power of perseverance.” She noted, “Over the years, it has served as a great platform to showcase many inspiring works and also to launch the careers of talented creators including directors.” She then pointed out recent trends of the synergy effect between AI and creators, adding “I am closely observing (this trend),” she said, “and hope many people will enjoy the charm of short films.”
Mr. Bessho expressed his gratitude to the governor for her encouraging words. Reflecting on this year’s theme, “creative active generative,” he said that about 250 films had been carefully selected from 4,592 entries representing 108 countries and regions. He then took the opportunity to highlight the Cinematic Tokyo Competition, a collaborative effort between SSFF & ASIA and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This competition has been a significant part of the festival for nine years, aiming to promote Tokyo’s diverse appeal worldwide. “This year, we selected five films out of 197 entries from 44 countries and regions. These films were not limited to the works filmed in Tokyo but also themed on, in the memory of, and the visualization of Tokyo. The power of perseverance is evident in the numerous works we received,” Mr. Bessho said.
