Governor Koike Stresses the Need to Enhance Disaster Preparedness to Protect Tokyo Citizens
Governor Koike emphasized that the Tokyo government must protect the capital to ensure the safety and health of its residents from disasters and prepare for all risks.
Governor Koike speaks at a meeting of the Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Council.
At a meeting of the Tokyo Metropolitan Disaster Prevention Council held on May 28, it was mentioned that Tokyo’s islands have experienced several volcanic eruptions while Mt. Fuji also poses a potential threat to the capital.
The governor then called for enhanced volcano monitoring and better methods to cope with ashfall on Tokyo’s roads or elsewhere, considering its impact on urban functions.
In a similar vein, she stated that the Tokyo Metropolitan Regional Disaster Prevention Plan (on volcanoes) should set out new goals for smooth evacuation and efficient removal of ash from an early stage of its fall.
"We shall work together to protect Tokyo citizens from the threat of eruptions," she emphasized.
