Godzilla: Attack on Tokyo! 
 “Tokyo Night & Light”　– A Guinness World Record™

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is holding a projection-mapping display throughout the year; using the TMG’s No.　1 Building as a canvas to express a variety of art with light and sound to create a new tourism resource to color Tokyo’s nightlife and revitalize nightlife tourism promotion. This project has been certified by the Guinness World Records™ as the largest architectural Projection Mapped Display （permanent）. 

This year, TMG will begin displaying content featuring the globally popular Godzilla, which so happens to be the 70th year anniversary since its creation. We hope you will enjoy this project and its content, created with high artistic quality and world-leading technology.

Synopsis

“Godzilla” suddenly attacks the Tokyo Metropolitan Government No.1 Building. Defending the building from Godzilla’s attacks, humans confront it with the modified “Super X2,” a new weapon to counter the monster...

Highlights

The 100-meter tall Godzilla, featured in the “VS Series” of the franchise, will make an appearance in this program. The epic fight scene of a spectacular Godzilla, a life-size projection on the wall of the TMG building, taking on the “modified Super X2” is a must-see.

The connection between Godzilla and Shinjuku

Godzilla is a globally popular character that Japan is proud of, evidenced by the worldwide success of “Godzilla-1.0,” a film released last year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of his birth.

The Shinjuku area and the TMG building are spots with deep links to Godzilla.

In the film “Godzilla,” released in 1984, the “Super X,” a super weapon used to fight against him, took on Godzilla in a fierce battle scene in the Nishi-Shinjuku area. And the TMG’s No.　1 Building was featured in the 1991　“Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah.”

In 2015, a 12-meter tall statue of Godzillas' head was created in Kabukicho, Shinjuku City, and the creature was appointed as a special tourism ambassador for the city.

What is Godzilla?

The King of the Monsters, gaining much fame around the world since its first appearance on Earth.

The first film in the series, released in 1954, marked an unprecedented hit, drawing an audience of 9.61 million. Since then, more than 30 films have been produced in Japan alone, with the number of viewers for the franchise topping 100 million. To date, the series continues to enjoy broad popularity and overwhelming recognition among people, regardless of gender and generation.

Godzilla, depicted as an existence beyond human understanding, sometimes plays an active role on the screen as a barrier that humans must overcome, or sometimes even sides with humans. The themes in the Godzilla series reflect the social conditions of each era, captivating the people of the time.
The popularity of Godzilla has transcended the oceans, and the Hollywood version of the Godzilla film titled “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was a big hit in North America and other parts of the world.
