2025 Tokyo Dementia Symposium Held
On Sept. 25, 2025, Gov. Koike attended the “2025 Tokyo Dementia Symposium” held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Hall in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
In her remarks, the governor said, “As we anticipate the arrival of a super-aged society full-fledgedly, it is extremely important to push forward the creation of environments where people can live with peace of mind in their communities. In particular, deepening our understanding of dementia, which anyone can develop, will become a huge power in building a society where individuals can maintain their dignity and live with hope even after developing dementia.”
She then referred to Tokyo’s initiatives, “Based on this recognition, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government engages in various awareness-raising activities, centering around September, a month for raising awareness of dementia. As part of these efforts, we hold this Dementia Symposium every year. Furthermore, we appoint individuals with dementia as Tokyo Dementia Hope Ambassadors, who share their stories of living with hope despite their condition.”
In concluding her message, the governor said with emphasis, “What matters most is realizing a society of mutual respect and support, regardless of whether one has dementia. I hope each one of us will consider this as a matter of our own.”
