‘Market Festival’ to Be Held at 7 Central Wholesale Markets
To help Tokyo citizens understand more about the wholesale markets and fresh food products and enhance their interest in a fulfilling consumer lifestyle through food and flower education, “Market Festival” will be held this fiscal year at seven Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Markets.
This event is held to open the markets to Tokyo citizens. At each venue, programs will center on those enabling visitors to physically touch the products traded at the markets, while vegetables, fruit, meat, and flowers will be sold at places such as on-site sales corners. Food education corners will also be set up, while mock auctions will be held. Dates, time frames, and event details will vary by venue, and sales and on-site sales corners will close once products are sold out.
At each market, PR corners will be set up with brochures and other materials available to support post-disaster reconstruction by introducing local cuisine and tourism: those of the three prefectures affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake—Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima—, of Ishikawa Prefecture hit by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, and of Kumamoto Prefecture impacted by a major earthquake recently.
Specialty products from Miyagi Prefecture will be sold at Setagaya Market (to be held on October 18), Yodobashi Market (October 25), and Toshima Market (November 8), while Kasai Market (October 18) will sell products from Fukushima Prefecture. Itabashi Market (on October 25) will sell those goods from Iwate Prefecture. Additionally, at the Meat Market (October 17–18), beef products from Kumamoto Prefecture will be put on sale, among other items.
