Symposium and Light-Up Event for ‘Stroke Awareness Month’ Planned

To raise public awareness of the importance of stroke prevention and early medical consultation, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) will organize a symposium, illuminations, and other events in step with Japan’s Stroke Awareness Month in October.

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death among Japanese people. Yet you can prevent it by reviewing your daily lifestyle habits. And even if a stroke does occur, receiving early treatment can save your life and help reduce after-effects.

The Japan Stroke Association, in line with ‘World Stroke Day’ on October 29—established by the World Stroke Organization (WSO)—has designated October as Japan’s Stroke Awareness Month. The association is working to promote stroke prevention and disseminate accurate knowledge.

TMG is also carrying out a public awareness campaign on strokes to keep in step with this.

One of the main initiatives is ‘Stroke Symposium’. To help participants deepen their understanding by obtaining the latest information, from stroke prevention to post-stroke rehabilitation, experts and stroke survivors will take the rostrum.

The event will be held on October 24 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Building (Tomin Hall, 1st floor). Prior registration is required for attendance.

Furthermore, in keeping with ‘indigo blue’—the symbolic color of the WSO—the TMG Building No. 1 and the Sumida River bridges will be illuminated in blue. The TMG Building will be lit up from October 24 to 29, and the Sumida River bridges will be illuminated on October 29.

Earlier this month, from October 6 to 9, panels to promote stroke prevention and early medical consultation were on display in the central space on the 1st floor of the TMG Building No. 1.
