‘Marriage Support TOKYO Meeting’ (1st in FY2026) Held

On July 9, Governor Koike attended the “Marriage Support TOKYO Meeting,” the 1st in FY2026.

The governor said, “To create a Tokyo where everyone can shine, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government stands by those who wish to ‘get married’ or ‘have a child,’ while doing everything we can to support their self-realization. As this year, 2026, is the 8th year of the Reiwa era in Japan, we have launched the ‘TOKYO 8 (Hachi) Musubi’ campaign on a large scale, with the cooperation of various companies and organizations. On August 8 in Reiwa 8, which we’ve named ‘Triple Eight Knotted Day’ because it contains three eights—an auspicious number (symbolizing a bright, expanding future)—we will hold the ‘Marriage Support Festa.’ We want to raise the momentum as a whole Tokyo.

“Last year, the number of marriages in Tokyo rose 4 percent from the previous year. We will further accelerate this trend and spread this movement from Tokyo to Japanese society as a whole. Together with all of you, we want to create a society brimmed with smiling faces,” she said.
