Tokyo to Hold a Traditional Craftsmanship Event from July 31–Aug. 2

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold a craftsmanship event that showcases the appeal of traditional Japanese artisanship and manufacturing techniques at the Tokyo International Forum in Chiyoda Ward from July 31 to August 2.

The event, “Monozukuri – A Celebration of Japanese Artisanal Techniques 2026,” will feature demonstrations and exhibits showcasing craftsmen’s skills in diverse fields—including clothing, food, and housing—to spark interest in the world of technical skills among young people and women and encourage them to aspire to become future pillars in these fields.

This annual event will also feature hands-on drone programming and flight practice led by students from a Tokyo Metropolitan High School of Technology, demonstrations of craftsmanship by young female artisans, and an exhibition on the pass-down of Edo komon dyeing techniques through the fusion of traditional artisanship and AI. Visitors will also have the opportunity to ride a robot.

Besides observing craftsmen’s techniques, visitors can participate in a variety of hands-on programs, including ring-making, flower arranging, earthen wall plastering, and creating original personal seals. Reservations for these hands-on activities are scheduled to open on the official website later this month.
