Governor Koike Meets with London Mayor Sadiq Khan
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko received a visit from London Mayor Sadiq Khan on June 18, 2026.
In the meeting, Governor Koike recalled that the last time she visited the British capital was in 2023. “I was able to learn a lot about city management from London then.”
She also noted that a deputy London mayor came to Tokyo a few months ago and “took the lead in promoting the arts.” “Tokyo hopes to work together with you to further develop the arts sector.”
After Mayor Khan praised her “Tokyo Cool Biz” campaign that encourages residents to change living habits, Governor Koike replied that it has “changed not only fashion but also the attitudes and mindsets of people.”
Citing London’s plan to organize “London Climate Action Week,” a climate action awareness event, in the coming week, she said: “We hope to cooperate with London going forward in the area of climate change as well.”
