Governor Visits a House Renovated Under the Tokyo Project for the Promotion of Vacant House Utilization
On April 8, Governor Koike visited a single-story wooden house in Okutama, a town in western Tokyo, renovated under the Tokyo project for the promotion of vacant house utilization.
After the visit, the governor said, “The western Tama area including Okutama town and the islands of Tokyo are rich in nature with warm human connections, brimming with charm. Two university students designed the renovation to transform a vacant house into a residence for people to move in and settle down. Thanks to their careful consideration, I believe we have created an environment that is well suited to raising children. The project also emphasizes energy efficiency including the use of high-insulation windows.
“With the number of potential vacant houses expected to increase in the days ahead, it would be a waste not to make use of them. Today, we have unveiled this property as one example of how we can revitalize a vacant home,” she said.
