Signing Ceremony for the MOU on the Partnership between TMG and Wireless Broadband Alliance over OpenRoaming-Compatible Wi-Fi

On January 27, Governor Koike attended the “Signing Ceremony for the MOU on the Partnership between the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Wireless Broadband Alliance over OpenRoaming-Compatible Wi-Fi,” held at Tokyo Innovation Base in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

The governor said, “Communication networks are a critical infrastructure that underpins the convenience, comfort, and safety of our daily lives. A communication environment that allows safe connectivity at any time and any place will not only enhance the city’s attractiveness for residents and visitors but also provide a great sense of reassurance during disasters.

“The Wireless Broadband Alliance, which brings together telecommunications carriers and technology companies from around the world, has been leading the innovation in wireless technology. That is precisely why today’s signing of the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) is so meaningful,” the governor emphasized.

“Currently, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been working to expand OpenRoaming-compatible Wi-Fi to more than 3,000 locations. I have high hopes that the MOU signed today will lead to further strengthening of our Wi-Fi initiatives and the introduction of new technologies. Let us work together to create cutting-edge communication technologies and innovative applications, and spread a positive, future-oriented momentum from Tokyo to the world,” she appealed.
