What is SEIKO HOUSE?
In 1894, K. Hattori shop Ltd. purchased and renovated the office building of Choya Newspaper, located at Ginza 4-chome and built the first clock tower. Following this, in 1932, a second clock tower was completed on a new building, symbolizing the recovery from the Great Kanto Earthquake. It has since become a familiar Ginza landmark, informing passersby of the exact time.
In 2022, marking 90 years since the completion of the second clock tower, Seiko once again re-envisioned the role of Wako main building at its Ginza 4-chome location, renaming it “SEIKO HOUSE”. This was done to convey Seiko’s master craftsmanship and monozukuri manufacturing spirt to future generations.
The company’s “Time and Japanese Culture Project” is an initiative to rediscover the appeal of traditional Japanese culture by introducing people who are active in traditional manufacturing, food, art, and entertainment. SEIKO HOUSE serves as a stage where visitors can experience the wonder of Japan’s traditions.
What is the “Edo Tokyo Kirari Project”?
Based on the discussions of the “Edo Tokyo Kirari Project Promotion Committee” established in 2016, this project shines light on techniques and products rooted in Edo-Tokyo tradition, one of the “treasures” of Tokyo. This undertaking selects ambitious and outstanding initiatives for model businesses and refines them from a new perspective, increasing their value while disseminating information about them worldwide for effective promotion. Thus far, 39 model businesses have been selected between FY2017 and FY2023.
Through the refinement and promotion of these model projects, TMG aims to establish the Tokyo brand and revitalize the city as a base of monozukuri (the manufacturing spirit), as well as improve the appeal of traditional industries and pass skills down to future generations.
