Experience Event of Tokyo-Style Sento Bathhouse Organized
On Oct. 10, 2025, Governor Koike attended the “Experience Event of Tokyo-Style Sento” held at Omori-yu bathhouse in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo.
She attended this event, accompanied by Shinagawa Ward Mayor Morisawa Kyoko, talent Miyagawa Daisuke, who was appointed as Tokyo-Style Sento Ambassador, and Kurio Haruka, representative director of Sento-to-Machi (Sento & Neighborhood, an NPO).
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is implementing measures to promote the appeal of those buildings with historical and cultural value that are close to citizens, such as sento bathhouses, and to preserve and utilize them.
Oct 10 is designated as “Sento Day.” A tour event was held where general participants could experience the scenery and culture of Tokyo-style sento bathhouses in Tokyo, guided by experts familiar with their distinctive architectural styles, such as the miyazukuri style, similar to that of shrines and temples of this country.
The governor said, “Charming public bathhouses serve as places of relaxation for people and are cherished as spaces where personal connections are formed. Bathing and sento are cultural. Preserving sento means preserving culture, and preserving shrine-style architecture enables us to feel the character and history of the town. I hope Tokyo-style sento, which blends long-cherished history and tradition with innovative ideas of contemporary people, will continue to be loved by local communities and inbound visitors alike.”
