Governor Koike Champions Vision for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics
At the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics sponsor and partners networking event on July 29, Governor Koike shared a collective vision for the Deaflympics. Participants included Adam Kosa, president of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf, and Ishibashi Daigo, president of the Japan Association of the Deaf. This stakeholder gathering took place at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward.
The governor emphasized the significance of the upcoming games. “The Deaflympics foster a deeper understanding of deaf sports and promotes an inclusive society where people with and without disabilities can enjoy sports together while respecting differences,” she said. “The passionate desire of everyone to support deaf athletes and share the Deaflympics spirit will drive positive change,” she added.
She then pointed out that the 25th Summer Deaflympics Tokyo 2025 will mark the 100-year anniversary of the first Deaflympics held in Paris. “By successfully hosting it, we can raise global awareness of the Deaflympics and lay the groundwork for its continued growth. Let us work together to make this a truly memorable celebration, where everyone can give their best and contribute to building a vibrant, inclusive society,” she said.
The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics are scheduled to take place from November 15 to 26 in and around Tokyo.
